Court Sentences Ex-PM Imran Khan And Wife Bushra Bibi To 17 Years In Prison
Pakistani court has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to 17 years in prison along with a fine of Rs 1 crore each in a corruption case, local media reported. The verdict was announced by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand during court proceedings held inside Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan is currently imprisoned. The court found both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi guilty of abusing their positions and committing criminal breach of trust related to state gifts.

As per the rules, it was not deposited in the government treasury. According to the investigation agencies, it caused loss to the government exchequer. Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand pronounced the verdict after more than 80 hearings. The court sentenced Imran Khan to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under sections 34 and 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code. In addition, he was given a separate sentence of 7 years under section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Similarly, Bushra Bibi was sentenced to a total of 17 years of rigorous imprisonment under the same section. The court said that the role of both is equal in this case. If the fine amount is not deposited, then additional imprisonment will also be pronounced. Imran Khan has been in jail in various cases since August 2023.
