Plane Crash in Colombia: 15 Dead After Aircraft Crashes Minutes After Takeoff: A tragic plane crash in northeastern Colombia has claimed the lives of all 15 people on board. The accident occurred on Wednesday in a rural area of Norte de Santander province, local authorities confirmed.
The aircraft, operated by Colombia’s state-owned airline Satena, crashed in an area known as Curacica. According to officials, local residents were the first to alert authorities about the incident. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the crash site to assess the situation.
However, upon reaching the location, the Colombian Ministry of Transportation confirmed that none of the passengers or crew members survived the crash.
The plane had taken off from Cúcuta airport at 11:42 am, heading toward the city of Ocaña, a route that typically takes around 40 minutes and passes through hilly terrain. Just minutes after takeoff, the aircraft lost contact with air traffic control, raising alarm among aviation officials.
There were 15 people on board, including 13 passengers and two crew members. The crew members were identified as Captain Miguel Venegas and Captain José de la Vega. Authorities also released the names of the passengers, which include Maria Alvarez Barbosa, Carlos Salcedo, Rolando Peñaloza Gualdron, Maria Diaz Rodriguez, Mayra Avendano Rincón, Anaysel Quintero, Carre Parales Vera, Enirli Julio Osorio, Gineth Rincón, Diogenes Quintero Amaya, Natalia Acosta Salcedo, Mayra Sanchez Criado, and Juan Pacheco Mejia.
Among the deceased was Diogenes Quintero, a prominent representative of victims of internal armed conflict in the region. His death has caused widespread grief and concern among local communities.
The aircraft involved in the crash reportedly bore the registration number HK-4709. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown. Investigating agencies are examining whether technical failure, weather conditions, or other factors may have contributed to the crash.
