Congress is organizing many programs on the occasion of Rahul Gandhi’s 56th birthday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Rahul Gandhi in an ‘X’ post and wrote, ‘Best wishes to Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha on his birthday. I wish him good health and long life.’ On the other hand Congress Leaders congratulated him underlying his political struggle, commitment to democratic values and engagement with the people.
Rahul Gandhi entered active politics in 2004. He entered the parliament by contesting the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. After this he consistently raised issues such as rural development, education, youth participation, women empowerment and social justice. In September 2007, he was appointed as the general secretary of the All India Congress Committee(AICC) and played an important role in the organizational expansion of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students’ Union of India(NSUI). In January 2013, Rahul Gandhi became the vice- president of the congress. He assumed the post of party president on 16 December, 2017. However he resigned as the party president after the congress failed to perform as expected in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
