President Approves Reorganisation Act, Amaravati Gets Legal Status as Capital
In a historic decision, Amaravati has officially been declared the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh after Droupadi Murmu approved the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2026.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu described the move as a victory for the self-respect of the people and credited Narendra Modi for his support in making it possible. Minister Nara Lokesh called the day historic, highlighting the sacrifices of thousands of farmers who gave up their land for the capital and stood firm during protests against its relocation.
With the President’s approval bringing legal clarity, Amaravati is now set to emerge as a major administrative and global hub, with stalled infrastructure projects expected to resume and development likely to accelerate across the state.
