Ramalinga Reddy Resigns as Karnataka Congress Tensions Rise: After the formation of D.K. Shivakumar’s cabinet, signs of internal disagreement have emerged.
Senior Congress leader and minister Ramalinga Reddy resigned from his post, reportedly unhappy with the portfolio allotted to him. He had sought the Bengaluru Development Department but was instead given the Irrigation Department, while Krishna Byre Gowda was assigned to the Bengaluru Development Department. Sources say Reddy was not willing to accept any other ministry.
In his resignation letter, he said he was stepping down because he “cannot act against my conscience.” He thanked the Chief Minister and the Congress party for the opportunity and said he would continue as an MLA and party worker.
Opposition leader R. Ashoka criticised the Congress, saying ministers are lobbying for preferred departments instead of accepting their assigned roles. He also said no one seeks key welfare portfolios like Social Welfare or Tribal Welfare, and pointed out that there are no women in the 13-member cabinet.
