Rohit Sharma became the fastest opener to reach 16,000 runs in international cricket. He achieved this milestone in 384 innings, breaking David Warner’s record of 390 innings. He reached the landmark with a six off Azmatullah Omarzai in the rain-shortened 25-over match.
Joins elite company:
With this achievement, Rohit joined an elite group of openers that includes David Warner, Graeme Smith, Virender Sehwag, and Chris Gayle. He is now the seventh batter in international cricket history to score 16,000 runs as an opener.
Ahead of legends:
Rohit is now close to surpassing Virender Sehwag’s record for India’s most successful opener, needing just 110 more runs. He also holds the best strike rate (93.03) and average (45.22) among openers with 16,000+ runs.
Career milestone: So far, Rohit Sharma has scored over 20,000 international runs, with most of them coming as an opener.
