Devotees believe that proper worship of Shanidev helps reduce the effects of Sade Sati, Dhaiyya, and Mahadasha.
However, many people unknowingly make mistakes while worshipping Shanidev, which can lead to negative results instead of relief. Below are the important mistakes to avoid:

- Do not use copper utensils
- Copper is associated with the Sun.
- Despite being Shanidev’s father, Surya and Shani are considered enemies.
- Always use iron utensils for aarti and offerings.
- Avoid offering red or yellow flowers
- Red symbolizes Mars, and Mars is an enemy of Saturn.
- Yellow flowers are also considered unsuitable.
- Only Parijat flowers should be offered to Shanidev.
- Do not offer yellow lentils
- Yellow lentils are prohibited in Shanidev worship.
- Only black lentils (urad dal) should be offered to pacify Saturn.
- Avoid offering white milk barfi or red/yellow sweets
- Such sweets are considered inauspicious.
- Offerings that are considered favorable include:
- Jaggery
- Black sesame laddus
- Black grapes
- Gulab jamun
- Sweet puris
- Do not wear red or yellow clothes during worship
- These colors are not associated with Saturn.
- Always wear black clothes, which are believed to please Shanidev.
