too much spicy food causes ibps and ulcers
Spicy Food Harm Your Intestines : Many people over-spice their food. They find food unpalatable without it. But the question often arises: Does eating too much spice harm the intestines? Does such food also harm health? How much spicy food is appropriate and which people should avoid it? Let’s learn the answers to these questions from experts.
Dr. Ananya Gupta of the Department of Gastroenterology at AIIMS Delhi explains that spicy food is harmful, but only when consumed in large quantities. Overeating can damage the intestinal lining, often unnoticed. Initially, it causes heartburn, gas, and acidity, but people ignore it, and it gradually becomes a major problem.
Risk of IBS and ulcers
Dr. Gupta explains that people who consume spicy food daily, or even three to four days a week, may experience symptoms ranging from ulcers to Irritable Bowel Syndrome within a few years. Both of these conditions are dangerous for gut health. Ulcers are caused by damage to the intestinal lining caused by spicy foods. IBS occurs because spicy foods can disrupt digestion. However, individual tolerance varies. Some people can easily digest spicy foods, while others experience discomfort even with small amounts. Therefore, it’s important to understand these symptoms in your body.
