Sugar Export Ban: India Will Not Export Sugar To The World, Bans Sugar Exports . The central government made a big announcement on Wednesday. In which it has imposed an immediate ban on sugar exports. The export of raw, white and refined sugar will be banned till September 2026. This ban can be extended further. This decision has been taken to keep sugar prices under control in the country. This step of the government has come at a time when pressure on sugar prices is increasing in the domestic market. By reducing exports, domestic supply will be increased and prices will be kept under control.
Sugar Export Ban
It is worth noting that India is the world’s second largest sugar producer. In a notification issued on Wednesday, the central government said it has banned the export of sugar with immediate effect. It will be in force till September 30, 2026 or until further orders. It was indicated that the move is an attempt to control domestic prices.
Production consumption is likely to decline
After Brazil, India is the world’s largest sugar exporter. India had earlier allowed sugar mills to export 1.5 million metric tonnes of sugar as production was expected to exceed domestic demand. However, production is now expected to fall for the second consecutive year – due to poor cane production in major sugarcane growing regions. The El Nino weather pattern is expected to disrupt the monsoon season. This has also increased the risk that actual production will be lower than initial estimates.
