Haryana Shocked by Surajkund Fair Accident; CM Saini Expresses Grief
A major accident was reported at the Surajkund International Crafts Fair on Sunday, triggering panic and chaos among visitors. At least 13 people were injured after a giant swing named ‘Tsunami’ suddenly broke and collapsed during operation. In a tragic turn of events, a police inspector lost his life while attempting to rescue people trapped in the accident.
According to officials, 26 people were riding the swing at the time of the incident. Inspector Jagdish Prasad, posted in Palwal, rushed towards the ride after noticing it tilt dangerously. While trying to save the riders, he was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries. Two women police constables were also injured in the rescue effort.
Adding to the chaos, another accident occurred near Gate No. 2, where the welcome gate of the fair collapsed, injuring two more people. All the injured were immediately shifted to nearby private hospitals. Officials confirmed that most victims suffered minor injuries, though 2–3 people remain seriously injured but conscious.
Senior administrative and police officials, including the District Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner, reached the spot soon after the incident. The area was barricaded, and the fair administration halted operations of several rides as a precautionary measure.

DCP Maqsood Ahmed stated that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. An FIR has been registered against the swing operator, and strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the family of the deceased officer and assuring full medical support to the injured. State Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma confirmed that a committee has been formed to probe the incident, despite the rides having prior safety certification.
The tragic incident has once again raised serious questions about safety standards at large public fairs, with authorities promising accountability and corrective action.
