Tamil Nadu Election 2026: Vijay to Contest from Two Seats, TVK Announces 243 Candidates: In a major political development ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, actor-turned-politician Vijay has announced candidates for 243 constituencies under his party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). Marking his electoral debut, Vijay confirmed that he will contest from two key seats — Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirapalli East.
The elections for 234 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu are scheduled to be held on April 23, setting the stage for a high-stakes political battle. Vijay introduced candidates from his core leadership team, including N Anand, Aadhav Arjun, R Arunraj, CTR Nirmal Kumar, and K A Sengkottaiyan, who will contest from major constituencies such as T Nagar, Villivakkam, Gobichettipalayam, and Tirupparankundram.
Addressing party members, Vijay framed the upcoming election as a contest between “TVK’s people’s alliance” and the ruling alliance led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), headed by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin. He criticized the ruling front, calling it “manipulative,” and positioned his party as a fresh alternative focused on people-centric governance.
Outlining his vision, Vijay promised a strong youth-focused agenda. He pledged to make Tamil Nadu drug-free and announced collateral-free education loans of up to ₹20 lakh for students from Class 12 to PhD level. He emphasized that his candidates were chosen for their commitment to public service.
The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is expected to witness a multi-cornered contest. Alongside the ruling DMK, the NDA alliance—featuring All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Bharatiya Janata Party—is aiming for a comeback. Other players include the PMK led by S. Ramadoss, a front associated with V. K. Sasikala, and Naam Tamilar Katchi led by Seeman.
With Vijay entering the political arena for the first time, all eyes are now on how his popularity translates into electoral success in this crucial election.
