Trump Announces Immediate 25% Tariff on Countries Doing Business with Iran
Trump Threatens 25% Tariff on Countries Trading with Iran, Warns of Possible Military Action: US President Donald Trump has sharply escalated pressure on Iran by announcing a sweeping new tariff measure targeting countries that continue to do business with Tehran. In a post on social media, President Trump declared that any country trading with Iran will face an additional 25 percent tariff on its trade with the United States, effective immediately.
Calling it a decisive step, Trump said the move is aimed at forcing Tehran to curb what he described as violent repression of protesters. “Anyone doing business with Iran will be subject to additional tariffs if they do business with the US,” the President stated, underlining Washington’s hardline stance.
Several major economies, including China, Brazil, Turkey, and Russia, maintain trade ties with Iran and could be affected by the decision. The announcement comes amid ongoing unrest in Iran, where protests against the government have reportedly resulted in the deaths of more than 600 people, according to various reports.
President Trump has also reiterated the possibility of military action against Tehran. He warned that if the US administration determines the Iranian government is using deadly force against protesters, Washington would not hesitate to respond militarily. Describing the situation as a “red line,” Trump said Iran has begun to cross it and confirmed that he and his national security team are actively considering potential options.
Meanwhile, pro-government demonstrations have also taken place across Iran, with supporters of the regime rallying after days of protests that directly challenged the authority of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian state television aired footage of large crowds chanting slogans such as “Down with America!” and “Down with Israel!”
Iran’s Attorney General issued a stern warning, stating that anyone participating in protests would be considered an “enemy of God,” a charge that carries the death penalty under Iranian law.
The developments signal rising tensions between Washington and Tehran, with potential global economic and geopolitical consequences as the crisis deepens.
