According to reports, Agnivesh suffered a heart attack in New York while undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in a recent skiing accident.
Agnivesh Agarwal had been admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York after being injured while skiing a few days ago. The family was hopeful about his recovery, but tragedy struck when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during treatment.
Confirming the heartbreaking news, Anil Agarwal shared an emotional message on social media, describing the loss as devastating.
“We thought the worst was over, but destiny had something else planned. Suddenly, a heart attack took our son away from us,” he wrote.
Expressing his grief, the industrialist said, “My beloved son Agnivesh left us too soon. He was only 49 years old—young, vibrant, and full of dreams. We believed everything would be fine, but fate had other plans.”

Anil Agarwal further wrote that Agnivesh was not just his son, but also his closest friend, pride, and entire world. “Kiran and I are completely broken. He dreamed of a self-reliant India and always asked why our country should lag behind anyone,” he said.
In his post, Agarwal reiterated a promise he had made to his son—to devote more than 75 percent of the family’s inherited wealth to social welfare.
“I promised Agnivesh that we would spend over 75 percent of our wealth on social work. Today, I reaffirm that promise. I will live an even simpler life and devote the rest of my life to serving society,” he wrote.
Born on January 24, 1954, in Patna, Anil Agarwal is one of India’s most prominent industrialists. He began his business journey in the mid-1970s by trading metal scrap and founded Vedanta in 1976. Over the years, he expanded the company into a global metals and mining giant, earning the title of India’s “Metal King.”
