Warren Buffet’s son Howard Buffett, has taken over as the new Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. Howard has been a member of Berkshire Hathaway’s board since 1993.
Warren Buffet steps down as Berkshire Hathaway chairman: Warren Buffet has stepped down as the chairman of an investment firm Berkshire Hathaway ending a tenure of 56 years. This is the second post he has resigned from in a year.
The 96-year-old Buffet will now serve as chairman Emeritus and remain on the company’s Board of Directors. Warren Buffet’s son Howard Buffett, has taken over as the new Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. Howard has been a member of Berkshire Hathaway’s board since 1993. Meanwhile, Greg Abel, who became CEO last year, will continue to manage the company’s day-to-day operations.
In a message to shareholders, Warren Buffett expressed confidence in the company’s future and praised Greg Abel and Howard Buffett for their leadership. Buffett built most of his fortune through Berkshire Hathaway and had an estimated net worth of more than $140 billion as of July 2026. He is also known for his philanthropy and has donated around $66 billion worth of shares to charitable causes since 2006.
Known as the ‘Oracle of Omaha’, Buffett built one of the most successful investment track records in modern history. He took control of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965 when it was a struggling New England textile mill and turned it into a $1.1 trillion (£822b), global conglomerate.
Buffett has made his mark through ‘value investing’ – a strategy focused on finding companies with solid fundamentals, buying them at fair prices, and holding them for decades. His retirement as Chairman marks the end of a major chapter in Berkshire Hathaway’s history.
