5.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes China’s Sichuan Province: A 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit China’s Sichuan Province on Friday. According to China Earthquake Networks Centre(CENC) the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 13 km.
The quake struck Longchang city in south west China’s Sichuan Province at around 1:13 pm(local time). The epicenter if the seismic activity was at 29.23 degrees north latitude and 105.22 degrees east longitude said CENC. Meanwhile Nepal police said that the Trishuli area of Nepal is being evacuated again as significant surge in water flow threatens to raise the river’s water flow. A fresh alert has also been issued regarding threat of dam burst on the Tibet side added police.
The earthquake occurred amid continuing rescue and relief operations in Tibet and Nepal after a devastating flash flood and landslide struck the border region earlier this week. The disaster has killed hundreds of people and left hundreds missing.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday chaired a meeting of top officials on rescue operations in Tibet.
