Puri Becomes A Municipal Corporation : A major change has been seen in the municipal administration of the state before the new year. The government has granted the status of a metropolitan municipality to the holy city of Puri. Along with this, a formal notification has been issued for the formation of several new Municipal Councils and Notified Area Councils (NACs) in the state.
The government has taken a big decision for the holy shrine of Puri. Puri Municipality has been given the status of a metropolitan municipality. As per the announcement made by the Chief Minister on July 3 this year, the state government has issued a formal notification in this regard. Along with this, major towns like Loisingha, Chandikhol, Yashipur and Basta have also been upgraded to further strengthen the municipal administration system of the state.
Earlier, as per the notification issued on 22nd of this month, 24 new NACs have been formed in 14 districts of the state and 5 new municipalities in 3 districts. While 24 areas like Pallahda, Simulia, Sohela, Thidi, Salepur, Badamba, Narasinghpur, Narla and Borigumma have been included in the new NAC list, Baidgarh, Bhanjanagar, Kavisuryanagar, Polsara and Karanjia will function as municipalities from now on. It is expected that this step of the government will accelerate the development process of urban areas.
