Odisha cadre IPS officer Shefeen Ahamed K passes away

A 2003-batch IPS officer, Shefeen was a native of Kerala. He had also served in Kerala on inter-cadre deputation, including as SP Rural, Thiruvananthapuram.

Odisha cadre IPS officer Shefeen Ahamed K passes away: Odisha cadre IPS officer Shefeen Ahamed K, who was serving as Inspector General (IG) in the Crime Branch, passes away on Monday. He had been battling with cancer since diagnosed in early 2025. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He was 50 years old.

A 2003-batch IPS officer, Shefeen was a native of Kerala. He had been serving as IG in the Odisha Crime Branch since July 2023. An engineering graduate, Shefeen had served in several key positions during his over two-decade career in the Odisha Police. His postings included SP of Jharsuguda, DIG of the South Western Range, DIG (Technical), IGP Home Guards, IGP of the Human Rights Protection Cell and DIG at Police Headquarters.

He had also served in Kerala on inter-cadre deputation, including as SP Rural, Thiruvananthapuram. He received several honours and medals for his work in the Cyber Crime division and CID Crime Branch.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over the IPS officer’s death. In a social media post, Majhi said, ‘Deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Shefeen Ahamed K, IPS, I.G. of Police, CID, CB.’ He said Shefeen’s dedicated service to Odisha and the Odisha Police would always be remembered. The Chief Minister also conveyed his condolences to Shefeen’s family, colleagues and loved ones and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.

Ahamed’s passing leaves a gap in Odisha Police’s senior leadership, particularly in crime investigation and cyber security work he had helped shape in recent years. Funeral and last-rites details were awaited from the family in Kerala.
