UAE Government Stops Scholarships For Students Going To Study In Britain : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has taken an important and sensitive decision regarding higher education. The UAE government has suspended government scholarships for students going to the UK. The decision is said to have been taken due to growing concerns about security and ideological influence. According to the UAE, there are elements active in British educational institutions who are influencing students towards radical ideas.
The UAE government had banned higher education at British universities in June. But the government’s decision has now become a matter of debate. The issue has come into the spotlight after reports in British newspapers ‘The Financial Times’ and ‘The Times’. According to these reports, the UAE Ministry of Higher Education has released a new list of foreign educational institutions. It has been revealed that there is no university in the UK in it.
The revised UAE scholarship list includes institutions from the US, Australia, France and Israel. But the UK, which is considered a major global education hub, has been completely left out. When British officials questioned this, UAE officials clarified that the government does not want its students to be exposed to any kind of radicalism while studying abroad.
According to the Financial Times, the UAE’s main concern is the Muslim Brotherhood. The UAE has already declared this organization a terrorist organization. According to the UAE, there is an ideological network related to the Brotherhood in British universities and campus environments. The UAE has long been demanding that European countries ban this organization. However, Britain has not taken any such step in this direction so far.
In 2015, the British government commissioned a comprehensive review of the Muslim Brotherhood. The review was launched after warnings from Saudi Arabia. The report said that the organization’s views were not in line with British values. However, it was made clear that the Muslim Brotherhood had no direct involvement in any terrorist activity in or against the United Kingdom. For this reason, the United Kingdom refused to impose any restrictions on the organization.
The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna. Its aim was to implement Islamic principles in social and political life. After the Arab Spring, the organization also seized power in Egypt. However, after the 2013 military coup, the organization was banned in Egypt. It has been declared a terrorist organization in countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Russia, and Jordan until January 2026.
