Two Killed in Mob Violence in Assam’s Kokrajhar; RAF Deployed, Internet Suspended

Assam Violence: Two Killed in Kokrajhar, Internet Suspended: At least two people were killed following violent clashes between Bodo and tribal communities in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, prompting authorities to deploy the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and suspend internet services as a precautionary measure. The violence erupted after an incident late Monday night in which two tribal individuals were allegedly hit by a vehicle carrying three members of the Bodo community. According to officials, the vehicle was later set on fire and its occupants were severely beaten, leading to one death from burn injuries, while others remain hospitalized.

Tensions escalated on Tuesday as members of both communities blocked highways near the Karigaon police outpost, torched tyres and houses, set a government office on fire, and attacked the local police post. The situation further deteriorated as mobs clashed, resulting in additional injuries, with officials later confirming that two injured persons had succumbed to their wounds. The Home Department suspended mobile and internet services in Kokrajhar and adjoining Chirang district to prevent the spread of rumors and inflammatory content.
