Soldiers Can Use Social Media But Cannot Post said defense minister

Defense Ministry Big Decision ; The Indian Army has made a major change in the way it uses social media. Now, soldiers and officers can only use Instagram to view and monitor. They cannot post or like any post. According to the report, all other rules previously applicable to the Army regarding digital activities will remain the same. In addition, this directive has been issued to all units and departments of the Army. The aim is to allow soldiers to view content on social media, collect information, through which they can identify fake content.

Under the new rules, soldiers can report fake or suspicious posts on social media to their superiors. The Indian Army has from time to time issued guidelines on the use of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, which were earlier banned due to security concerns.

Strict regulations were created in view of several cases of soldiers unknowingly leaking sensitive information after falling into the trap set by foreign agencies. This necessitated the need for social media controls.

Recently, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi shared his views on the use of social media by army personnel during the Chanakya Defence Dialogue.
