Ukraine’s Zelenskyy Confirms December 28 Meeting With Trump in Florida
Zelensky to Meet Donald Trump in Florida as Ukraine-US Peace Plan Nears Completion: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to meet former US President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday in a development seen as a significant step toward advancing peace efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. While the meeting has not yet been officially confirmed by the White House, Zelensky indicated that high-level discussions are underway and could lead to major decisions before the New Year.
Speaking to reporters, President Zelensky said the talks with Trump would focus on resolving outstanding issues related to ending the conflict, though he cautioned that no final agreement should be expected immediately. The goal, he explained, is to reach consensus on as many key points as possible.
Zelenskyy to Hold High-Level Talks With Trump
Zelensky revealed that a 20-point peace plan jointly prepared by Ukraine and the United States is nearly 90 percent complete. Among the most critical topics expected to be discussed are Ukraine’s post-war security guarantees and the role of international allies in maintaining long-term stability.
Earlier this week, Zelensky met with Trump’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Following the meeting, he said several documents related to ending the war and rebuilding Ukraine are close to completion. However, major challenges remain unresolved, including territorial disputes and control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. No agreement has been reached on Russia’s demands regarding withdrawal from certain regions.
In a post on social media platform X, Zelensky expressed gratitude to the US envoys, describing the discussions as constructive and productive. He emphasized that Ukraine and its partners are working around the clock to bring the war to an end and to ensure that any agreements reached are realistic, effective, and credible.
“We discussed important details of the ongoing work,” Zelensky wrote, adding that there are promising ideas that could contribute to lasting peace. He stressed the importance of real security guarantees, genuine recovery efforts, and durable peace, noting that these goals are shared by Ukraine, the United States, Europe, and all international partners supporting Ukraine.
