Modi’s Israel Trip Signals New Phase in Military Collaboration
PM Modi’s Israel Visit to Boost Strategic and Defense Ties: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Israel on February 25–26, in what is being seen as a crucial step toward strengthening defense and strategic cooperation between the two nations.
At a time when global security dynamics are rapidly evolving, the visit signals India’s intent to bolster its national security architecture through access to advanced military technologies. While no major defense deals are expected to be signed during the trip, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on enhanced security cooperation is likely. Experts believe that bilateral defense collaboration could cross the $10 billion mark in the coming years.
Israel to Share Advanced Defense Technology
According to reports, Israel has agreed in principle to share some of its most advanced and closely guarded defense technologies with India. These reportedly include high-tech laser defense systems, long-range stand-off missile systems, and advanced drone capabilities.
If finalized, this would mark a significant milestone, as it would be the first time Israel shares certain sensitive technologies with another country at this level.
‘Mission Sudarshan’: Strengthening India’s Missile Shield
A major highlight of the visit is “Mission Sudarshan,” an ambitious initiative aimed at fully protecting Indian territory from long-range enemy missile threats.
Under this mission, India is working closely with Israel on the joint development of an advanced anti-ballistic missile defense system. Israel’s layered air defense architecture — including the long-range Arrow, the medium-range David’s Sling, and the short-range Iron Dome — has earned global recognition for its operational success.
By integrating elements of this proven system, India aims to build a multi-layered shield capable of intercepting threats at different altitudes and ranges, making its airspace significantly more secure.
Lessons from Operation Sindoor
India’s defense collaboration with Israel has already proven effective in recent military operations. During Operation Sindoor, Indian forces reportedly used Israeli-origin systems such as the Rampage missile, the Pam 400, and Harpy kamikaze drones to neutralize enemy positions and disable air defense systems.
Encouraged by the operational success of these systems, India is now exploring the expansion and acquisition of additional advanced weaponry. These include the Spice 1000 long-range guided bomb, the Air Lora air-launched ballistic missile, the Ice Breaker long-range missile system, and the Barak ER extended-range missile system, designed to enhance the protection of Indian Navy warships from aerial threats.
A Strategic Leap Forward
Modi’s upcoming visit is more than a diplomatic engagement — it reflects a strategic recalibration in response to emerging global security challenges. As geopolitical tensions continue to shape defense priorities, India’s deepening partnership with Israel underscores a shared commitment to technological innovation, military preparedness, and long-term strategic cooperation.
