Sometimes there is excessive rain, sometimes there is no rain and sometimes hailstorms destroy the entire crop. In such a situation, the most important question for farmers is: how will their losses be covered? In such a situation, there is no need to panic. The government provides assistance to farmers in such a situation. For this, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is now being implemented.
When and how will compensation be provided in case of loss? The scheme covers various risks, ensuring that farmers are protected at every stage. You can apply through an online portal. You can also apply offline by visiting a bank, cooperative or CSC centre. It is mandatory to apply within 10 days of sowing. Inform the insurance company or officer within 72 hours. Officers reach the spot to assess the damage. If the report is found to be correct, then the claim is approved. The compensation amount is directly transferred to the bank account.
However, only those crops are included in the scheme which are notified by the government for that particular region. Landowner farmers can participate in it. Sharecroppers and independent farmers are also eligible. Insurance is mandatory for farmers who have taken crop loans from banks. Farmers who do not have loans can join it voluntarily.
