UGC Scholarship 2026: Single Girl Child to Get Rs 72,400 Scholarship, Know Eligibility and Application Process
Scholarship for Single Girl Child, know how to apply: Now your daughter can dream of higher studies. The University Grants Commission (UGC) is running the ‘Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child’. Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided to female students who are their parents’ only children.
Under UGC’s Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship scheme, financial assistance of Rs 72,400 is given to an only daughter for Master’s degree over two years(regular basis). This will encourage them to pursue higher studies.
Account Transfer:
The scholarship amount is directly transferred to the student’s bank account. This amount is remitted to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar linked bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Every year around 3,000 new girl students are given the benefit of this scheme.
The special thing about this scholarship is that there is no family income requirement for the application. That is, irrespective of the financial status, eligible female students can apply for this scheme.

Eligibility:
- The student must be the only child of her parents. Families with only daughters and no sons are also eligible for this scheme. Apart from this, twins or two daughters born together can also apply for this scholarship.
- Age of the applying student should be 30 years or less at the time of admission to the first year of Master’s degree.
- Studying in the first year of a regular and full-time (Full-Time) master’s degree course in a recognized university or college.
- This scholarship is available for Non-Professional postgraduate courses only. It includes general PG courses like MA, MSc, MCom.
However, female students pursuing engineering, medical, law and other professional courses will not be eligible for this scheme. Apart from this, distance education and open learning mode students will not get the benefit of this scheme.
How to apply:
Application for this scholarship is done through the National Scholarship Portal. Interested students have to register on the portal and select ‘Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child’ scheme.
