Vigilance arrested Kuber Baikunthanath

Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested Kuber Baikunthanath Behera for possessing  disproportionate assets worth crores. The Vigilance Technical Wing has been engaged to measure and assess the market value of the buildings and plots.

Vigilance arrested Kuber Baikunthanath: The Vigilance team raided at nine locations linked to Baikuntha Nath Behera, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Baliguda in Kandhamal district. The searches, carried out by nine Vigilance teams comprising two Additional SPs, five DSPs, six Inspectors and other supporting staff, were conducted in Bhubaneswar, Baripada, Dharmasala in Jajpur district and Baliguda on the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

According to Vigilance officials, the searches have so far led to the detection of four multi-storeyed residential buildings in Bhubaneswar, a double-storeyed house at Dharmasala in Jajpur district. Cash amounting to ₹2.04 crore, 14 high-value plots, bank deposits worth ₹45 lakh and 341 grams of gold. The money is being counted in the bank’s money counting machine.

Investigators traced ownership documents and verified financial records to determine the source of funds. They also identified one locker operated in the name of his spouse, which remains unopened. But Behera failed to justify these assets during questioning.

Officials registered Vigilance Cell PS Case No. 4/2026 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018. Behera will appear before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
