Srilanka Prison Clash: 25 killed, around 100 injured: At least 25 people were killed and around 100 others injured in a clash between two groups of prisoners in Srilanka on Monday. After the violent clash, the injured were rushed to the nearby government hospital.

According to local police and media reports, violence broke out at the prison in Negombo, about 35 kilometres north of the capital Colombo, on Sunday. The violence escalated into a major riot by Monday morning. Initial investigations revealed that the violence broke out inside the prison between a group allegedly supporting drug trafficking activities and another group opposing such activities. Authorities are also investigating whether an organized crime ring inside the jail helped provoke or fuel the violence.

After the incident escalated, the Sri Lankan authorities deployed the Police Special Task Force (STF) along with the Riot Control Unit to bring the situation under control. As an immediate measure to prevent further violence, three prisoners were transferred to the Palansena Jail Camp. Further investigations are underway.
