Ranchi student protest: police filed FIR against 600 protesters: The police have registered an FIR against 600 protesters following violent clashes during the assembly march of students in Ranchi. The FIR list includes 100 named and 500 unidentified students and other protesters.

On August 10, the students had called for ‘Vidhansabha Gherao’ to protest the irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams. Tensions escalated as protesters tried to breach the police cordon, triggering a clash with security personnel. Police had to use lathi charge, water cannon and tear gas shells to control the crowd. The State president of BJP, Aditya Sahu had announced a Jharkhand bandh on Tuesday in protest against the police action. Most of the named protestors were youth workers of BJP sources said. The police are trying to identifying the named accused as well as the unidentified people involved in the disturbance during the protest.

Students and candidates of competitive exams have been protesting since July 25. Their demands include transparency in recruitment examinations, reform of the functioning of JPSC and JSSC, cancellation of many examinations and an independent inquiry by the CBI or a committee of retired high court judges outside Jharkhand.
