VVS Laxman, on becoming the Director of Cricket, may take on the role of the overall strategic head of Indian cricket.
VVS Laxman soon to get new responsibilities: BCCI: Indian cricket may soon see a major administrative change. The BCCI is set to appoint Former Team India star batsman and current head of the BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE), VVS Laxman as ‘Director of Cricket’. This development comes at a time when the BCCI is preparing for a possible reshuffle of key posts in September.
Ajit Agarkar’s term as the chairman of the senior selection committee is about to end in September. Along with this the coaching setup of the national team is also being reviewed, so the board may make some major changes.
VVS Laxman, on becoming the Director of Cricket, may take on the role of the overall strategic head of Indian cricket. In this role, his work will not be limited to the senior team, but will also ensure better coordination between the senior team, junior teams, selectors, coaching staff, and player development programs. The role will involve planning the future of Indian cricket, reviewing performances, and strengthening the cricket infrastructure, rather than coaching on the field.
Laxman is currently overseeing player development, talent nurturing and high-performance programs at the Bengaluru-based Center of Excellence. If Laxman is made Director of Cricket, it will be a major expansion of his existing responsibilities. The BCCI has not yet made any official announcement regarding this potential appointment or new role. On the other hand, BCCI may extend Ajit Agarkar’s tenure till June 2027. In such a situation, all eyes will be fixed on the final decision of the board.
