Bank Union Announced Nationwide Strike On Sept 11: The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a nationwide strike for a 5-day workweek. This may affect banking services in the coming days.
UFBU, the common platform of 9 major organizations of bank employees, has decided the dates of the strike against the ‘negative attitude’ of the government. Their demand is five-day work week and withdrawal of the government’s reformed ‘Performance-Linked Incentive’ scheme.
Unions have earlier announced a nationwide bank strike on 11 September 2026 for 1 day. Since September 11 is a Friday, banking services may remain suspended for 3 to 4 consecutive days, including the Saturday/Sunday holiday for the next two days. After this, a nationwide strike has been announced for 3 days from 28 to 30 September 2026. Since this is the half-time closing of the banks, the strike will have a serious impact on the operations. Finally, in case the demands are not met, an indefinite nationwide strike has been warned from October 26, 2026.
The case is currently pending with the Chief Labor Commissioner for conciliation and legal proceedings are also underway in the Delhi High Court. Therefore, to adoid inconvenience, customers are advised to complete their bank related work in advance.
