15 newborns died in hospital fire in Islamabad: At least 15 new born babies died after fire broke out in a hospital in Islamabad on Wednesday. The incident has triggered panic among patients and staff.
According to sources the incident occurred Wednesday around 7 am after an air conditioner compressor exploded in the hospital’s nursery. The blaze broke out in the gynaecology ward of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad. Report states there were total 16 new born babies in the gynecology ward. Doctors could save only one child. After being informed the rescue teams rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. Six fire brigade vehicles and 4 ambulances were deployed as a part of the rescue operation.
An inquiry committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner has been formed to investigate the incident. The district administration said that the committee will find out the cause of the fire and also investigate how the incident took place.
The incident has raised concerns over safety measures in the hospital.
