Fear of Fresh Devastation in Nepal as Bhote Koshi River Surges
Fresh Flood Threat Looms Over Nepal, NDRRMA Issues Alert: Around 700 people have died in the floods in Nepal, while thousands are still missing. Rescue and relief teams are working in several areas. Authorities have also warned of a possible second wave of severe flooding.
The first disaster was reportedly caused by ice breaking off in Tibet, sending huge amounts of water, rocks, and debris downstream. Similar conditions have developed again, raising fears of another flood in low-lying areas.
Nepal’s disaster authority has warned people living near the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading to stay alert.
Over 275 Indians Missing: India’s Ministry of External Affairs said more than 275 Indians are missing, while 108 have been rescued. Around 128 people of Indian origin are also missing. Four Indian citizens were rescued from a hydropower project in Rasuwa.
India Sends More Relief: India has sent its fourth relief shipment to Nepal, carrying 11 tonnes of supplies. It included search-and-rescue equipment, technical teams, and forensic experts to help identify victims.
India has also sent equipment for a 230-foot modular steel bridge and seven Bailey bridges. So far, India has provided 68.5 tonnes of relief material to Nepal.
