Heavy Rain Alert for Odisha on September 23-24
Bay of Bengal Depression Nears Odisha Coast, IMD Issues Warning: A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and is expected to become a deep depression today. It is moving west-northwest towards the Odisha coast.
According to the IMD, the system may cross the coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur between the night of September 23 and the morning of September 24.
Heavy Rainfall Warning: Rainfall in Odisha is expected to increase from today. Heavy to very heavy rain, with extremely heavy rain in some areas, is likely on September 23 and 24. Rainfall is likely to be more intense in southern Odisha districts such as Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri.
Southern districts such as Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri may receive very heavy rainfall. Rain is also expected in other coastal and interior districts.
Fishermen Advised to Stay Away: Strong winds and rough sea conditions are expected along the southern Odisha coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
Heavy rain may cause waterlogging, rising river and stream levels, and landslides in some areas.
The IMD currently expects the system to cross the coast as a deep depression rather than developing into a cyclone. Rainfall may continue in several parts of Odisha until September 25.
