Man allegedly beats wife to death with a Tawa: A woman was beaten to death by her husband in Bhubaneswar. The exact circumstances and motive behind the alleged murder is yet to be ascertained. Police have arrested the accused in connection with this incident.

The shocking incident took place in Bhubaneswar’s Brit colony under Nayapalli police station limits. The deceased  has been identified as Banasmita Swain(26). The accused husband has been identified as Sarbeswar Pradhan(28), a resident of Belapala village under Rajnagar police limits in Kendrapada.

According to sources, the couple had got married around 18 months ago. They also have a 3-months old baby. Banasmita was living in her in-laws village in Belapala after child’s birth. Past 3 days she had come to her father-in-laws rented house in Nayapalli. As per Sarbeswar’s father Sasikant Pradhan, Sarbeswar and Banasmita had argument over some matter on Wednesday at around 7 pm. After the argument escalated Sarbeswar suddenly got angry and hit her wife’s face multiple times with a tawa. Hearing Banasmita screaming, neighbours rushed to the spot and found Banasmita lying with blood on floor. Neighbours detained the accused and informed the police. On receiving information, Nayapalli police along with a forensic team reached the spot and collected samples. Police rushed Banasmita to hospital where doctors declared her dead.

As per Sasikant, Sarbeswar was suffering from mental illness for about six months and was on medication. Police has arrested the accused and interrogation is on. A blood-stained tawa was recovered from the bedroom and seized as evidence. The body was sent to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination. The exact reason will be known after further investigation said police.
