India’s brave pilot Captain Smith Machchhar became quite emotional during the call and said it is a very special moment for him to speak with PM Modi. During the interaction, Smit told PM Modi that he is his biggest idol.
Smit Machchhar shared that whenever he is in difficulty, he recites the Hanuman Chalisa. He said he was reciting the Hanuman Chalisa during the difficult moment as well. During the conversation, Machchhar shared details of his experience with the Prime Minister and spoke about what gave him the courage to respond during the incident.
The Prime Minister told Captain Smit, ‘The whole country is praying for you. Maha Mrityunjay jaap is being done for you and your health. Your courage, intelligence and restraint saved many lives. The country can proudly say that Indians are not those who take the lives of others, but those who are willing to risk their lives to save the lives of others.’

PM Modi lauded Smit’s courage and wished him a speedy recovery. PM Modi also spoke about Smit’s mother, Geeta Ben, and said she has raised him with the values and teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.
India’s Ambassador to the UAE, Deepak Mittal, said Machchhar is in stable condition and recovering well at a hospital in the UAE. Mittal, who met the injured pilot and his family, said Machchhar remained in high spirits and was ‘smiling and also laughing.’
