Nandankanan welcomes 36 new exotic guests across 11 species

Nandankanan welcomes 36 new exotic guests across 11 species: Nandankanan Zoo welcomes new guests. About 36 new animals and birds belonging to 11 different species added to its new collection. The enclosures of new animals have been opened for general public on the ongoing state level Wildlife Week Celebrations.

Among the star attractions are African Zebra (2 males, 2 females), Kangaroo (2 males, 2 females), Bennett’s Wallaby (3 pairs), Ring-tailed lemur (2 pairs), Tough Capuchin (2 pairs), Scarlet Macaw (2 pairs), Blue-and-gold Macaw (2 pairs), Green-winged Macaw (2 pairs), Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (2 pairs), Crowned crane (2 pairs), Scarlet Ibis (2 pairs), Meerkat (3 pairs), A pair of cassowaries, Blue wildebeest (2 pairs).

Among these new guests, 10 species are completely new to Nandankanan. In addition, one species of pairing and three species of new bloodlines have been added. This brings the total number of species of animals at Nandankanan to 188. All of these animals are kept in quarantine.

Designed for optimal animal comfort, the state-of-the-art enclosures allow visitors to observe these species from a close yet safe distance. Zoo authorities emphasised that these additions will enrich the visitor experience, drive conservation awareness, and serve as an educational showcase, particularly for children and first-time guests.

‘Nandankanan is also progressing at a rapid pace. The number of species here has increased from 178 to more than 200. Nandankanan will be further improved in the coming days. It will further progress as one of the best zoos in the country,’ said Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma, Principal Administrative Secretary of the division.
