Aam Aadmi Party Moves to Replace Raghav Chadha with Ashok Mittal as Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha
AAP removes Raghav Chadha as Rajya Sabha deputy leader: In a significant political development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has formally written to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat seeking the removal of its deputy leader in the Upper House, Raghav Chadha. The party has also requested that Chadha no longer be allotted speaking time under AAP’s quota in the Rajya Sabha.
In his place, AAP has proposed Ashok Mittal, a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, for the leadership role. Mittal, elected in April 2022, has been actively involved in parliamentary work, serving on key committees such as Defence and Finance, and is part of the India-US Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Mittal recently gained attention for being included in an all-party delegation led by Kanimozhi following Operation Sindoor, visiting several European nations.
Meanwhile, Chadha has remained a prominent voice in Parliament, raising issues such as women’s empowerment in Panchayats, menstrual hygiene, and the rights of gig workers. His interventions have highlighted systemic challenges, including the “Sarpanch Pati” phenomenon and barriers to education for girls due to lack of sanitation facilities.
The move signals a strategic reshuffle within AAP’s parliamentary leadership, though the party has not publicly detailed the reasons behind the decision.
