Middle East Tensions Push IndiGo to Add Extra Fuel Fee
Air Travel Costlier: IndiGo Adds Fuel Surcharge Starting March 14: India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has announced a new fuel surcharge on both domestic and international flights starting March 14, 2026. The additional charge will range between ₹425 and ₹2,300, depending on the route and distance.
The airline said the decision was taken due to the sharp rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Jet Fuel Monitor, fuel prices in the region have increased by more than 85%, mainly due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
March 14 Onwards: IndiGo Passengers to Face Fuel Surcharge
IndiGo explained that fuel is one of the biggest operating costs for airlines. The sudden jump in prices has increased expenses for carriers across the industry.
However, the airline said it has kept the fuel surcharge relatively small to reduce the burden on passengers, even though the price increase could have led to higher ticket fares.
Earlier this week, Air India and Air India Express also introduced a ₹399 fuel surcharge on domestic tickets starting March 12 to manage rising operating costs.
