The United States has imposed tariffs under Section 301 against 60 major trading partners on imports related to forced labor. India is among the 17 countries on which an additional tariff of 10% has been imposed.
America imposed new tariffs on 60 countries including India: The US has announced an additional 10% tariff on goods imported from India. This decision came into force on Friday. On the instructions of US President Donald Trump, the US Trade Representative (USTR) has taken action against 60 countries regarding the import of goods made from forced labor.
The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced that the tariffs will be effective from 12 midnight on Friday. The United States has imposed tariffs under Section 301 against 60 major trading partners on imports related to forced labor. India is among the 17 countries on which an additional tariff of 10% has been imposed. An additional tariff of 12.5% has been imposed on the remaining 43 countries. Last month, the USTR office had proposed additional tariffs on this issue. Apart from India, many countries, including the UK, Canada, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Mexico, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, have been placed in the 10% tariff group.
Announcing the new tariffs, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said,‘The U.S. has had a ban on imports of products made from forced labor for nearly a century. We strictly enforce it.’
