Ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu  Assembly elections, Annamalai is planning to quit the BJP and form his own party. Annamalai’s decision to leave the party has created turmoil in state politics. Behind Annamalai’s sudden exit lie years of struggle marked by competing ambitions, uneasy alliances, electoral setbacks, and a growing disconnect between his and the central leadership’s plans

Before joining politics, K. Annamalai was an IPS officer of the 2011 batch. He had assumed responsibility in the Indian Police Service under the Karnataka cadre. During his police service, he became very popular due to his strict work style. After serving the country in the police service for almost 8 years, he resigned from his honourable post in the year 2019, and after that, he joined the BJP and became active in politics.
