‘Assi’ Day 1 Collection: Taapsee Pannu’s Social Drama Opens at ₹70 Lakh
Assi Box Office Collection Day 1: Taapsee Pannu’s Performance Praised: The courtroom drama ‘Assi’, starring Taapsee Pannu, hit theatres today amid decent buzz but witnessed a modest start at the box office. The film, which tackles the sensitive issue of a rape survivor’s legal battle, faced stiff competition from Shahid Kapoor’s romantic entertainer ‘O Romeo.’
According to trade reports from SacNilk, Assi collected approximately ₹7 million (₹70 lakh) on its opening day. While the film’s subject is powerful and socially relevant, the numbers suggest that it did not attract a large audience on day one. Trade analysts believe word of mouth over the weekend could determine whether the film sees growth in collections.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Assi dives deep into the harsh realities faced by rape survivors within the legal system. The story highlights societal prejudice, courtroom struggles, and systemic loopholes. Apart from Taapsee, the film features strong performances by Kani Kusruti, Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra, and Revathi, all of whom add emotional weight to the narrative.
However, despite its gripping premise and impactful performances, the film reportedly loses momentum in the second half. Some viewers felt that certain scenes lacked logical consistency, which may have diluted the overall impact. This could be one reason why the film did not resonate strongly with the mass audience on its opening day.
Meanwhile, O Romeo, which has already completed eight days in theatres, continues to perform steadily. The romantic drama earned around ₹1.43 crore on its eighth day, taking its total collection to approximately ₹48.53 crore. With such strong numbers, Assi clearly faces an uphill battle at the box office.
Whether Assi can pick up pace over the weekend will depend largely on audience reviews and word-of-mouth appreciation. For now, the film has opened on a slow but hopeful note.
