ATF Price Hike Could Lead to Increased Air Fares
ATF Price Hike Expected from April 1, Air Travel Costs Likely to Rise: As crude oil prices rise, the cost of Aircraft Turbine Fuel (ATF) is expected to increase starting from April 1, potentially making air travel more expensive. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu confirmed the anticipated price hike, which is fixed on the first of each month, and emphasized that the government is in discussions with airlines to mitigate any negative impact on passengers.
Naidu acknowledged that the increase in fuel prices could affect the financial stability of airlines, as the aviation sector might face higher operational costs. The government is currently consulting with airlines and other stakeholders to determine the best course of action to support the industry while ensuring passengers are not burdened by increased costs.
In addition to the fuel price concerns, there have been reports about airlines being instructed to make at least 60% of their seats available for free, though major carriers like IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet are opposing this directive. The ongoing talks suggest that the aviation sector is facing a range of challenges, which the government is actively working to address.
