Pakistan Supreme Court Orders Medical Examination of Imran Khan’s Eyes Amid Health Concerns
Imran Khan’s Eyesight Worsens in Jail, Report Claims 85% Vision Loss: Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered the formation of a medical board to examine former Prime Minister Imran Khan after concerns were raised about severe damage to his right eye. A report submitted to the court claimed that only 15 percent vision remains in the eye. Acting on the findings, the Supreme Court of Pakistan directed that a detailed medical examination be conducted before February 16. The court also granted Khan permission to speak with his children.
The hearing was led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, who described Khan’s health as an important matter requiring judicial attention. The court sought the government’s position on the former premier’s medical condition and the care being provided to him in Adiala Jail. Khan’s family and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have repeatedly voiced concerns about his deteriorating eyesight and overall health.
PTI lawyer Salman Safdar, appointed as amicus curiae, met Khan in jail and later submitted a seven-page report to the court. According to the report, Khan stated that despite receiving recent treatment, he has lost nearly 85 percent of vision in his right eye. The developments were also highlighted in a report by Dawn, which detailed the court proceedings and the contents of the medical submission.
The case has sparked criticism of the government’s handling of Khan’s health. Senior journalist Zahid Gishkori described the report as alarming and accused prison authorities of negligence. Concerns have also been raised about Khan’s living conditions and medical care in custody. With the Supreme Court stepping in, attention is now focused on the upcoming medical evaluation and the government’s response to the court’s directives.
