BJP announces candidates for Rajya Sabha polls

BJP has nominated senior leader Dinesh Arya from Uttarakhand and Rukmani Mallik from West Bengal as Rajya Sabha candidates

BJP announces candidates for Rajya Sabha polls: Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) on Sunday has released the first list for 2026 Rajya Sabha biennial elections. BJP has announced Rajya Sabha candidates from Uttarakhand and West Bengal. Elections are to be held for one seat each in both the states with a woman candidate also in the fray.

BJP has nominated senior leader Dinesh Arya from Uttarakhand as Rajya Sabha candidate. While Rukmani Mallik alias Koel Mallick has been nominated from West Bengal. The  names of the candidates have been approved by the BJP central election committee. BJP is expected to win both the seats.

Koel Mallick, a popular Bengali film actor who entered Parliament as a TMC nominee, had resigned from the Rajya Sabha on July 16, 2026, after meeting Chairman C P Radhakrishnan and submitting her resignation.

Notably, the biennial elections to 11 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, along with a by-election for one seat from West Bengal, will be held on October 16. Polling will take place from 9 am to 4 pm, followed by counting of votes on the same day.

It is believed that in a few days, the BJP may announce candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
