Karur Stampede Case: Actor-Politician Vijay Appears Before CBI in New Delhi
CBI Questions Actor Vijay Over Karur Stampede: Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi on Monday in connection with the Karur stampede case. The CBI had summoned Vijay as part of its investigation following the Supreme Court’s order in October 2025, which directed a CBI probe into the tragic incident.
According to sources cited by CNN News18, CBI officials are questioning Vijay on multiple aspects related to the sequence of events that led to the stampede. Investigators are expected to ask what Vijay knew about the situation on the day of the rally and whether he was aware of the crowd size and arrangements at the venue.
Sources said Vijay may also be questioned about the delay in his arrival at the rally venue and whether he was informed about the commotion that began after a child was reported missing. The CBI is also likely to seek clarity on whether Vijay knew about the police lathi charge carried out to control the surging crowd and why he left the venue while the situation was worsening.
The stampede took place on September 27, 2025, during a political rally organized by Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, in Karur district of Tamil Nadu. The incident occurred at Velusamypuram on the Karur–Erode highway, where a sudden surge in the crowd led to chaos.
At least 41 people lost their lives, including nine children and 18 women, while more than 100 others were injured. The incident triggered widespread outrage and demands for accountability, eventually leading to the Supreme Court ordering a CBI investigation.
The probe aims to determine lapses in crowd management, security arrangements, and the responsibility of the organizers in one of the deadliest political rally stampedes in recent years.
