Disney plans layoff, targets 20% cost cuts: Global entertainment company Walt Disney Company is gearing up for another round of layoffs. The company is considering cutting thousands of jobs as part of a cost saving restructuring initiative.

According to a Bloomberg report published on Monday, the company has reportedly asked certain managers to identify opportunities to cut annual expenses by approximately 20 per cent. The proposed cuts come as Disney faces pressure across several parts of its business. Its film division has been dealing with inconsistent box office performances. The company is grappling with weaker international footfall at its theme parks, as artificial intelligence continues to transform various aspects of the entertainment industry.

The impact of the proposed restructuring is expected to differ across Disney’s business units. Some divisions could face deeper reductions than others, depending on where managers identify opportunities to lower spending.

The company is expected to reinvest a portion of the savings in strategic growth areas such as movies, television, technology, theme parks and cruise services.

The company had around 2,31,000 employees at the end of fiscal 2025, underlining the scale of its workforce. A fresh round of reductions would add to several rounds of layoffs Disney has carried out over the past few years as it attempts to control expenses.
