Abhishek, brother of victim, in his statement said that they have spent around lakhs in his sister Sonali’s marriage. A dowry of 15 lakh in cash and 2.5 lakh worth furniture was provided.
Dowry Harassment: 24-year-old woman found dead 6 months after marriage: A 24-year-old woman committed suicide over dowry harassment by her in- laws. A case of dowry murder has been registered by police against 6 people in connection with this incident.
This shocking incident has come to light from Indira Nagar, Lucknow. Just after 5 months of marriage, a newlywed woman was found hanging in her in-laws’ house. The victim was identified as Sonali(24) of Buxar, Bihar. She was married to Kamalkant Mishra from Bhojpur in February this year. Kamalkant was working as a deputy manager in a private bank. He was living in a rented flat in Shivajipuram of Indira Nagar. On June 28, Sonali travelled to Lucknow to meet her husband. But late Saturday night, Sonali was found hanging in her husband’s house, sources said. After being informed, the victim’s family members reached Indira Nagar on Sunday. Abhishek, brother of the victim, in his statement said that they had spent around lakhs on his sister Sonali’s marriage. A dowry of 15 lakh in cash and 2.5 lakh worth of furniture was provided. But the in-laws were not happy. He also alleged that her husband and his family were constantly demanding a car and a huge amount of cash. Sonali was tortured both mentally and physically.
On the basis of Abhishek’s statement police has filed a case against six members of Sonali’s in- laws including mother–in- law, father-in- law and her husband. The police handed over the body to the family after conducting the post- mortem. The main accused husband is being detained and police interrogation is on way.
