DTC ‘Pink Tickets’ To Be Phased Out; Smart Saheli Cards Mandatory From July 1 : The Delhi Pink Card, introduced under the Kejriwal government to provide free DTC bus travel for women, is now in its final stages. The current government is now making changes to this policy. The government will soon discontinue the Pink Ticket and provide free DTC bus travel to women only through the Smart Pink Saheli Card. The government is also revising the rules for free travel for women on government buses.
According to reports, starting July 1st, women will be able to travel free on Delhi’s DTC buses only with a Pink Saheli smart card. The existing “Pink Ticket” facility on Delhi government buses will be completely discontinued from July 1st. This means that digital cards, rather than paper tickets, will now be mandatory for bus travel.
‘Pink Ticket’ service will be discontinued
Additionally, women from outside Delhi will no longer be able to travel for free on DTC buses after the “Pink Ticket” service is discontinued. However, women living in Delhi who possess proof of residence will be able to avail of free travel by obtaining a Pink Smart Card. The government says this will make the entire system more transparent and ensure accurate passenger records.
6 lakh women have got pink smart cards made.
The Delhi government began rolling out the Pink Saheli smart card several months ago. President Draupadi Murmu launched this smart card on March 2, 2026. According to reports, approximately 600,000 women have obtained the Pink Smart Card as of March. However, usage is currently very low. Currently, approximately 1 million women travel on Delhi buses daily, and only 5-6 percent of them are using the smart card. The government wants all women using DTC buses to obtain the smart card to maintain transparency.
Kejriwal had started the scheme
According to the Delhi government, the subsidy system for free travel for women through the Pink Smart Card is to be changed and linked to the central government’s “One Nation, One Card” scheme. The Pink Saheli card can also be recharged and used on the metro. In 2019, the Arvind Kejriwal government introduced the “Pink Ticket,” offering free travel to women. This will now be discontinued on July 1, 2026.
