Four Kendrapara labourers stranded in Thailand seek rescue through video appeal: Four labourers from Kendrapara district are stranded in Thailand. They appealed for government intervention to bring them home. They have made an emotional video appeal surfacing on social media.
‘They brought us here for work, but our passports have been withheld for the past year, and our salaries have not been paid. Whenever we raise the issue, we are allegedly threatened that the police will be called, and we will be detained here. We appeal to the government to rescue us and help us return home,’ the workers alleged.
Four labourers from Kendrapara district, who went to Thailand in search of work to support their families. They are now trapped in dire conditions. Through an emotional video appeal, seeked for immediate intervention by the Central and State governments to bring them home.
Khirod Das, Manoj Mallick, Kailash Sethi, and Nityananda Mallick from Kendrapara, along with Raj Kumar Pasi from Gorakhpur, said they have been stranded without salaries, passports, or food for months. Workers also revealed that they were recruited on tourist visas more than a year ago. Now they face an expired visa status. They have been employed at a plywood company situated in the Kabin Buri district of Thailand for more than a year.
In the video, the distressed labourers alleged that the company owner is threatening to hand the employees over to the police if they refuse to work. Apart from this, workers allege having received death threats.
With no passports in their possession and no financial support, the workers are living in fear and desperation. They have made an urgent appeal through the video, requesting both the Central and Odisha governments to intervene immediately and facilitate their safe return to home.
