Monsoon Arrives in India: IMD Issues Heavy Rain and Storm Alerts Across 24 States
Monsoon Enters India, IMD Issues Widespread Rain Alerts: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says the Southwest Monsoon has reached Kerala, about 9 days later than expected. It usually reaches Kerala around June 1.
Heavy rain in South India:
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka may receive heavy rain next week. Orange Alerts have been issued in parts of Kerala like Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam due to very heavy rainfall.
Rain and storms in other states:
Pre-monsoon activity is strong in many states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana. Strong winds, thunderstorms, lightning, and dust storms are likely due to storm clouds.
The IMD has issued warnings for 24 states due to rain and storms. Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may also see hailstorms and strong winds. Delhi is under a Yellow Alert.
Heat continues in some areas:
Despite rain in many places, heatwave conditions continue in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, with temperatures above 40°C.
Forecast (June 5–6):
June 5: Heavy rain and storms in Rajasthan, Gujarat, MP, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and parts of South India.
June 6: Strong winds and thunderstorms in North India and central states. Rain will continue in many southern and northeastern states.
Advisory: People in affected areas are advised to stay alert and follow weather updates due to risks of lightning, strong winds, and heavy rain.
