Government Drops Plan to Pre-Install Aadhaar App on Smartphones: The Government of India has withdrawn its proposal to mandate the pre-installation of the Aadhaar app on smartphones, following strong opposition from major technology companies and concerns over user privacy and data security. In a statement, the Unique Identification Authority of India confirmed that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology reviewed the proposal and decided against making Aadhaar app preloading compulsory. The decision followed consultations with stakeholders from the electronics and technology sectors.
